The A-Zs of Hiring Glossary

Temp-to-perm

What is Temp-to-Perm?

Temp-to-Perm is a type of employment arrangement where an employee is hired on a temporary basis with the possibility of being offered a permanent position after a predetermined period of time. This arrangement is also known as temp-to-hire or contract-to-hire.

During the temporary period, the employee works for a staffing agency or a third-party employer, but is contracted to work for the client company. This allows the client company to evaluate the employee’s skills and performance before offering them a permanent position.

Temp-to-Perm arrangements are common in industries such as healthcare, IT, and finance, where employers may have a need for temporary workers to fill short-term vacancies or to complete specific projects. This arrangement also benefits the employee, as it provides an opportunity to gain valuable work experience and potentially secure a permanent position with the client company.
